Revelation watch: Day 16

Revelation: The future "It is finished

.

Rev. 1:7: "Everyone will see Him."
Jesus Christ completed and will complete everything the Father asked Him to do to rescue humanity. Jesus uttered the first "It is finished" when He died on the cross, according to John's Gospel. He carried out His redemptive work on the cross to save everyone who believes on Him for salvation. We find the second "It is finished" (or "It is done" in some translations) in the Book of Revelation. John the apostle wrote both books that recorded the "It is finished" proclamation.

Revelation 21:6 (NLT) - "And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life."

John19:28-30 (NLT) - (28) "Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.”29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."

When Jesus ascended to heaven after He was raised from the death, He continued (and continues) His post-redemption work to usher in judgment, destroy Antichrist, lock up Satan, begin the 1,000-year reign on earth with the saints, distribute rewards to the faithful believers, and set up the new earth and new heaven.

The Book of Revelation, which uses a lot of symbolic language, provides details and glimpses into the sweeping events that the Lord put into motion as soon as Adam and Eve sinned, if not before since God is eternal. Jesus is the fulfillment of multifaceted prophecies. This is another important reason for people to read what is in Apocalypse (Revelation). The work of Jesus did not end with His resurrection. He has many more things to do, and they will happen soon, before the Lord declares once again "it is finished."

It was my study of the End Times at this stage of my life that gave me a deeper appreciation of God's love for us. Everything we read about in Revelation is about His love toward us. Love is His motivation. Why else bother with hard-headed and rebellious people? Because He loves us, and wants us to share in all the wonderful things He planned for us. Then like Paul the apostle, the least we can do is finish the individual race set before us:

2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NLT) - (7) "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing."

Hebrews 12:1-2 [a] (NLT) - (1) "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith."
