Revelation watch: Day 7

Paul unlearns to relearn the scriptures

In Chapter 1 of Galatians, the apostle Paul describes how his conversion came about; he received it as a direct revelation from Jesus Christ. Paul was probably the most educated of the early apostles. Because he was a member of the elite Sanhedrin (pharisee of pharisees), he likely received the best Jewish religious training of his day, along with other formal education. After his encounter with Jesus, he did not rush off to meet with the other apostles in Jerusalem. He went to Arabia (scholars believe it was the Nabatean region) for three years before that gathering happened. Paul in Arabia .

Paul was so steeped in religious traditions and held mistaken interpretations of prophetic writings that he needed to go somewhere where he could think, unlearn the wrong stuff, and hear from the Lord. He had in fact received his calling directly from the Lord, and the Holy Spirit would help him understand the existing scriptures correctly.

The Lord used Paul's education in his outreach to the Gentiles and to correct the other Jewish apostles about certain matters related to the Gentile converts. Paul was now able to do this without the baggage that formerly blinded him to the truth about the Messiah. Although Paul comes across as a self-assured man, he approached his service for the Lord with great humility. I believe Paul spent those three years in "Arabia" dying to self in different ways, and because of that the Lord was able to use him mightily.

Paul also gave us one of the most tantalizing prophecies about the End Times, which we find in I Corinthians 15:51-52 (NLT):

" 51 But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! 52 It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed."

Acts 17:11 (NLT) - "And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth."

Revelation 1:3 (NKJV) - "1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near."

Rev. 5: 9-10 (NIV) -  " And they sang a new song, saying:“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.

10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”
