SHALOM
Compiled by Margie Benton-Reveles
Shalom
is a word used as a salutation by Jews at meeting or parting, meaning “peace.”
As
a greeting, the full meaning conveyed is “may you be full of well-being” or,
“may health and prosperity be upon you.”
“What
I am leaving with you is shalom — I am giving you my shalom. I don’t give the
way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened.”
Yochanan
(John 14:27 CJB) I don’t give it
the way the world does.
Yeshua’s
words give a clear indication that what the world means by peace and what he
means by peace are antithetical, or at the very least, incomplete.
The
world can dictate a peace.
Shalom
is a mutual agreement.
Peace
is a temporary pact.
Shalom
is a permanent agreement.
The
world can make a peace treaty.
Shalom
is the condition of peace.
Peace
can be negative, the absence of commotion [or conflict].
Shalom
is positive, the presence of serenity.
Peace
can be partial.
Shalom
is whole.
Peace
can be piecemeal.
Shalom
is complete.”
Yeshua
referred to “Kingdom shalom” when he told his disciples he would give them
shalom, but not as the world gives.
There
is no shalom without the creator of shalom. He is Yehovah Shalom. [Isaiah
9:6, the Messiah is known as the Prince of Peace.]
We
have to stop using our western mindsets when trying to define shalom.
In
the western mindset, peace is a word that describes the absence of bad things.
In the Kingdom, peace is a condition, the condition of being right with God.
Peace
Beresheet (In the beginning)
Adam
and Eve were at peace with God and all He created. Their needs were supplied.
The
condition of peace existed in the garden only as long as they were obedient to
God’s will.
“A
person whose desire rests on you you preserve in perfect peace, because he
trusts in you. Trust in YHVH forever, because in Yah YHVH is a Rock of Ages.”
Yesha
'yahu (Isa) 26:3-4
CJB
There
are no antonyms [words opposite in meaning] for shalom. It is a word so holy
(set apart) the enemy can't come against it.
“Shalom”
is taken from the root word shalam. It means, “to be safe in mind, body, or estate.”
It conveys a meaning of completeness, fullness, or a type of wholeness that
encourages you to give back — to generously re-pay something in some way.
True
biblical shalom refers to an inward sense of completeness or wholeness.
“The
tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the
consequences.”
Proverbs
18:21 (NLT)
Whenever
we speak the word "shalom" we speak into someone's life all the
wonderful things that shalom means!
“Now
may the Lord of shalom himself give you shalom always in all ways. The Lord be
with all of you.”
2
Thessalonians 3:16 CJB
*******
May
Yehovah bless you and keep you. May Yehovah cause his face to shine upon you
and give you shalom.
